A couple of weeks ago we were doing the dishes and I saw that there was a peacock on the backyard neighbors shed! Nobody currently lives in this house, but there was a lady out there trying to get the peacock off the roof of the shed. I naturally assumed she was the owner of the peacock. The peacock finally came off the roof and the lady "chased" the peacock around the yard trying to catch it. It was a very lazy attempt on her part as she would walk towards it, stop, and then take a drag of her cigarette. The peacock finally jumped up on our back fence and the lady grabbed it by it's tail feathers. The peacock tried to jump into our yard, but was just hanging there by it's
tailfeathers that this lady had a hold of. Eventually about three tail feathers came out, the bird fell into our yard, and the lady walked away with
tailfeathers in hand. It turns out she was not the owner, but a
tailfeather stealer! I was so mad. Anyways, the peacock chilled in our back yard for a while after this ordeal. We asked around the neighborhood and nobody knew who it belonged to. The next morning the peacock was gone and I assumed it found it's way home, or the owner came and got him. Later that evening the neighbor kids came over and said they had a peacock on their roof. Sure enough, the peacock was on their roof. After several calls to the Tracey Aviary, animal control, the Utah Department of Wildlife, and some Utah Department of Urban something it was apparent that no one wanted to come rescue our neighborhood peacock. So of course Annie and I started feeding it and it developed a name. Annie and I named him Pablo and the neighbors named him both Kevin (after the bird in UP) and Nessie. I really liked the name Kevin best. We enjoyed Kevin's stay with us for over a week. We haven't seen him much the last couple of days so I'm assuming he has moved on to greener yards...
